verified_user END-TO-END ENCRYPTION (MANDATORY)

Your private messages,
owned by you

WhiteRoom is a privacy-first messenger where end-to-end encryption is always ON. Your encryption keys are generated on your device — we do not store your private keys or recovery phrase, and we cannot read your message content.

Important: WhiteRoom uses a recovery-phrase style key. If you lose it, your encrypted chats cannot be recovered — not even by WhiteRoom.

Disappearing Messages

Set messages to vanish after a chosen time. Your words don’t have to live forever.

Recovery Phrase Access

Like a crypto wallet, your recovery phrase controls access to your encrypted account. Lose it, and encrypted history can’t be recovered — by anyone.

End-to-End Encryption Required

End-to-end encryption is mandatory. Messages are encrypted on your device and only the intended recipient can decrypt them. We cannot read your chats.

shield_lock

Minimal Data Collection

We minimize what we collect. We do not store message content or your private keys. Operational data is limited to keep the app stable, secure, and working reliably.

verified_user

No Backdoor Access

There is no “reset key” and no secret admin key. Privacy is strongest when nobody — including us — can unlock your chats.

group_work

Private Conversations

One-to-one and group conversations designed to keep content private. Your chats are for you — not for platforms.

The Security Flow

End-to-end encryption is always enabled — there is no non-encrypted mode.

1

Key on Your Device

When you create your account, your key is generated on your device. Your recovery phrase is shown to you once — store it safely.

2

Encrypt Before Sending

Messages are encrypted on your device. Only encrypted payloads travel across the network. We do not have the private key needed to decrypt.

3

Decrypt Only for the Recipient

Only the recipient can decrypt and read the message. This is what “true end-to-end encryption” means.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. End-to-end encryption is mandatory in WhiteRoom — you cannot use the app without it. Your private keys are generated on your device, and we do not store your recovery phrase or private keys. That means we cannot read your encrypted messages.
If you lose your recovery phrase, encrypted chats tied to that key cannot be recovered. WhiteRoom cannot reset or restore the key. This is a privacy decision: no backdoor, no exceptions. You can create a new key/account, but the old encrypted history will remain inaccessible.
We do not store readable message content and we cannot read your encrypted messages. Messages are encrypted on your device and only decryptable by the intended recipient. Operational systems may process encrypted payloads to deliver messages, but not in a way that provides us access to decrypted content.
WhiteRoom is designed around key ownership. Depending on your current build, you may not need a phone number or email to start. If any identifiers are introduced later (for example, optional account convenience features), we will clearly disclose them and update the Privacy Policy.
Currently, WhiteRoom is available on Android via Google Play. We may expand to more platforms in the future, but we won’t compromise the privacy model to do so.
We minimize data collection. We do not store message content, private keys, or your recovery phrase. Limited operational information (like app version and basic diagnostics) may be collected to keep the service stable, prevent abuse, and fix bugs. See the Privacy Policy section for full details.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 2, 2026

1. Overview

WhiteRoom (“we”, “our”, “us”) is a privacy-first messaging app designed to keep message content between the sender and recipient. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when using WhiteRoom (the “Service”).

2. What We Do Not Collect

  • We do not collect or store readable message content.
  • We do not store your private encryption keys.
  • We do not store your recovery phrase.
  • We do not sell personal information or message data.
  • We do not run advertising based on your private message content.

3. Information We May Collect (Minimal)

To operate reliably and securely, we may collect limited operational data such as:

  • App version, device type, and operating system version
  • Crash reports and basic performance diagnostics (if enabled on your device)
  • Non-content service events needed to deliver messages and prevent abuse

This information is used for security, reliability, debugging, and improving the Service — not for profiling or selling.

4. End-to-End Encryption & User-Owned Keys

WhiteRoom generates encryption keys on your device. Your recovery phrase is shown during setup and should be stored securely by you. We do not store it. If you lose it, encrypted chats tied to that key cannot be recovered by WhiteRoom.

End-to-end encryption is mandatory in WhiteRoom. The Service is designed to operate without providing us access to decrypted message content.

5. Message Delivery & Retention

Messages are encrypted on your device and delivered as ciphertext. We do not retain readable message content. We retain operational data only as long as reasonably necessary for security, abuse prevention, and service reliability.

6. Permissions

WhiteRoom may request permissions only when needed for specific features:

  • Internet — message delivery
  • Storage (optional) — send/receive media
  • Camera (optional) — capture photos/videos
  • Microphone (optional) — record voice messages

You can revoke permissions at any time in your device settings.

7. Third-Party Services

We may use infrastructure providers and crash reporting tools to operate the Service. These providers are not given access to your private keys or readable message content.

8. Legal Requests

Because WhiteRoom does not hold private keys or readable message content, we generally cannot provide decrypted messages. If required by law, we may respond with limited non-content information that we lawfully have.

9. Children’s Privacy

WhiteRoom is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above indicates when changes take effect.

11. Contact

For privacy questions, contact us at support@whiteroom.io.

Note: WhiteRoom provides technology for private communication. Users are responsible for lawful use of the Service.
